Customs Clearance
Customs Clearance
Customs Clearance involves the preparation and presentation of documents that identify, in the scope of customs law, the items that will be imported or exported. The customs broker is the professional who legally represents the figure of the importer or exporter during such proceedings at the customs, ports, and airports, to obtain clearance of such items, either for import or for export, after the payment of taxes, when applicable.

Relationship

Although some customs brokers choose to specialize in specific items, as brokers who operate mostly with food and beverages, or those who work solely with chemicals, brokers often remain informed on customs legislations of the countries where they operate as customs facilitators and interlocutors for any items.

It is known that products that need approval from specific Authority Bureaus, such as Environment Agency, the Federal Police, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Anvisa, Inmetro and more, may demand further attention regarding customs clearance due to the workflows that, in such cases, may be more extensive.

Customs Clearance is a facilitating activity, restricted to the customs environment, quite looked for in import and export operations. In other words, the operation of the broker starts when the cargo is available or is about to arrive in the ports or airports and ends with its clearance, either to enter or to leave the territory.
